About ART

Adirondack Regional Theatre was founded in 2001 by Tom Lavin.

A.R.T. is a dynamic and culturally diverse organization of people from all walks of life and all age groups, joined together in their commitment to produce a high quality theatrical experience. Over the years A.R.T. has been a staple of North Country summers, performing outdoors in downtown Plattsburgh at the Westelcom P.O.P.S, venue and the Lions Club Band Shell on the banks of the Saranac River at the foot of MacDonough Monument. In the spring of 2007 Clinton Community College named the group “Theater Company In Residence” at the college. Part of the residency distinction allowed the group to perform at the college’s Stafford Center Theater.

A.R.T. has presented their outdoor family oriented musicals free of charge. Corporate sponsors, advertisers and donations from the audience have funded all A.R.T. productions. The Mayor’s Cup Festival organizers hired the group in 2004 and 2005 to perform as part of their main stage series. A.R.T. has also been hired to entertain audiences at both SUNY Plattsburgh and Clinton Community College. The introduction of the Stafford Center Theater has allowed the group to charge admission for performances on the campus.

Adirondack Regional Theatre’s past productions include “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown (2001), Oliver! (2002), The Wizard Of Oz (2003), Footloose (2004), Annie (2004), Take Five (2004), You Can’t Take It With You (2004), School House Rock Live! (2005), The Fantasticks (2006), Cinderella (2006), Disney’s High School Musical (2007) and Seussical (2007).

It is estimated that the group has performed to over 30,000 North Country residents and visitors. The audience’s make up has included all age groups from children to senior citizens.
